Classroom pictures!

I can't believe how fast the summer has gone so far! It's been a really busy summer, full of big changes. The first change is that I'm getting to stay at my same school to teach music *insert crazy, excited face here* The school I was getting transferred to seemed so nice, but I LOVE my current school, so I'm so happy that I get to stay!

I've been in the classroom for a few days over the past couple of weeks, and I just had to put up some pictures of how the classroom is looking so far. It's not done yet, but here are a few pictures of what I have so far:
This is my word wall. All it took was colored duct tape from Walmart, and some free zebra printables from TeachersPayTeachers!
Here is my percussion instrument nook. Since this pic was taken, I've organized them differently, and I've yet to add my labels :-) This year I decided to do fabric bulletin boards, and it was so fun to create! I think that this bulletin board will have our recorder karate items on it.

Please excuse the mess that is still here! This pic is primarily to show you my absolute favorite part of my room, which is the green pom-poms!! They were SOOO easy to make, and I really think it makes the Jungle theme come alive
Here is Mr. Max, and he's listening to our Ipods that will display our essential questions for each grade level

This is our book nook :-) I think that I'll put our composer of the month bulletin board above it.

I'm still adding a bunch of stuff later, but I couldn't resist posting a sneak preview of what I'd gotten done so far!!

Future Classroom Theme

Okay guys, I've been finding great resources on Pinterest and on other blogs! PLUS I'm so excited because I get to see my new classroom next Monday. I'm thinking that my theme will be the same as this blog--a "Where the Music Things Are" theme. I'm starting this week painting Where the Wild Things Are characters holding and playing different instruments. Today I did some gigantic Ipods in different colored butcher paper (I'm going to put our Essential Questions and I Can statements on them for each grade), then I painted Max with earphones linked to them!! Pics soon to come of decorations and my future classroom....

New Beginnings

Hello Blogger World!

I'm so excited to start blogging at the start of a new beginning in my life! I'm currently ending my fourth year teaching. For the past three years, I've taught second grade, and then first grade. Now, with the current budget situation in my county, I got moved to.........K-5 music!! You guys, I have to be honest--I'm so excited to have a job, but I am so scared about doing music! My original degree was in Music Education, then I got my Master's in Reading and Literacy Curriculum and Instruction. I taught K-5 music during my first year of teaching, but that was over three years ago!

So, I decided that now was the time to start blogging and getting ideas from you guys! I'm scouring Pinterest, and other music blogs for suggestions of how to make this transition. What are your ideas?? What should I be thinking about right now for my future music classroom?  Ready...Set...Comment!
